1. Pokemon Soccer Cake

Pokemon Soccer CakeAngela Colet made this amazing and entertaining Pokemon birthday cake. We’ve called it a “Pokemon Soccer Cake” because it looks a bit like a soccer field, and if you wanted to take that a step further for a Pokemon-soccer fanatic you absolutely could! But we suspect this is really a “battle arena” for all the Pokemon figurines.

Putting the characters on the cake is a great way to liven it up very easily, and you can always hand out the Pokemon figures to people attending the birthday party. This cake is also HUGE! And it has some wonderful Pokeball decorations.

2. Piplup Birthday Cake

Piplup Birthday CakeThis is one of the coolest Pokemon birthday cakes we’ve ever seen. The perspective on the face is wonderful. The cake was made by bake.bite.love.

Plus it’s of Piplup! A wonderful character, perfectly suited for a boy’s or girl’s birthday party. The only sad part would be cutting into Piplup’s face, but still it’s an incredibly beautiful and fun birthday cake! I have no idea how this cake was made, but that’s why I write about cakes instead of bake them!

3. Pikachu Lightning Cake

Pokemon Lightning CakeThis is a Pikachu cake extraordinaire! It’s got everything you’d want in a perfect Pokemon birthday cake – Pikachu, a Poke Ball and lightning bolts!

One of this cake’s best features is the Pokemon writing. It looks absolutely perfect and super-stylish.

Plus, I believe everything is edible (although I’m not sure about the red base).

Overall this is a great Pokemon cake – it’s fun, exciting and delicious-looking.

4. Pikachu Birthday Cake

Pikachu CakePokemon aren’t just for boys! Here’s a beautiful, fun Pikachu cake for a girl’s 8-year old birthday party. It’s an adorable cake with a great image of Pikachu on the front.

It looks like Pikachu is jumping right off the cake! And the lettering is also fantastic. It’s in the Pokemon style, which can’t be easy to do. Outlining the letters really makes them stand out, and the combination of primary colors is wonderful.

5. Pikachu Face Cake

Pikachu cakeChocolate cake under tons of icing! That’s according to the cake-maker, who we wholly congratulate for making a wonderful Pikachu birthday cake.

The icing work here is exquisite, but we think you can pull it off as well.

The shape might take a bit of practice, so you probably should bake a few extra cakes and try cutting out the face and ears.

Here is a Harry Potter cake that will absolutely amaze you! We still can’t believe this is actually cake, but Kelley Duck (the cake-maker) confirmed it for us. We’ve highlighted other wonderful Harry Potter cakes, including an amazing Harry Potter Sorting Hat cake, and the one below stands out amongst the best we’ve ever seen.

Amazing Harry Potter Cake - 1

Amazing Harry Potter Cake - 2

Kelley also provided us with some details on how the cake was made and what it includes:

The books are iced in buttercream and the scarf, wizard coins, and wand are sculpted from fondant. Golden snitch was fondant formed around a styrofoam core, and wings are made of rice paper dusted with edible gold luster powder. Harry’s spectacles were piped from royal icing. The jar of invisibility crystals is a plastic bottle with fondant details; pouring crystals are large-grain decorating sugar on a royal icing-covered base.

I’m hoping Kelley stops by and tells us how long it took her to make this cake, because it looks so incredibly complicated! Can you imagine someone pulling this cake out for you on your birthday? Unbelievable…

Batman. The Dark Knight. The Caped Crusader. Everyone loves Batman. I’ve yet to meet a boy between the ages of 3-10 that didn’t go through a “Batman Phase”, so if you do have a son in that age range (or soon-to-be in that age range) you can expect at some point to be hosting a Batman Birthday Party.

Batman’s gone through many transformations in his illustrious crime fighting career, and that variety is well represented in the 7 Batman birthday cakes presented below. We’ve found a great group of birthday cakes, but just so it’s clear, we’re not ranking these in any particular order. Make sure you check them all out and find the Batman cake that’s right for you!

And don’t forget to visit our Ultimate Guide to a Great Batman Birthday Party.

1. Batman Utility Belt Cake

Batman Utility Belt CakeThis is a great Batman birthday cake because it takes one of the superhero’s classic items – his utility belt- and puts it front and center in this delicious-looking cake. Most Batman cakes feature the Caped Crusader himself, but in this case we get a very specialized treat.

The cake is beautifully made, and looks perfect for an older child. From the pictures uploaded by mandaloo it actually looks like the cake was made for an adult!

You could easily simplify this type of cake as well, as long as you can pull off the great utility belt icing on the top. Even if the rest of the cake was covered in simple white icing, the utility belt would stand out and make this Batman birthday cake special.

2. Batman Bust Birthday Cake

Batman Bust CakeWe love the look of this cake. Clearly it was made by a professional and if you click the image or here you’ll see that it’s actually a wedding cake! People do love Batman … so why not show that love during your wedding, right?

But it would be perfect for a Superhero Birthday Party too.

Personally, this is my favorite style for Batman – blue cowl, gray costume – and a lot of younger kids enjoy this Batman as well, because he’s less dark and scary.

The blue-gray Batman doesn’t have to be cheesy; he can still be a tough vigilante, but without all the heavy dark gear. This cake just looks incredible – I’d love to know what it tastes like!

3. Another Batman Bust Cake

Batman Cowl CakeWe have a hard time believing this is actually a cake! It almost looks like its made out of plastic or clay, but in fact, this is a Batman birthday cake.

It’s really hard to say anything about this cake except, “WOW”. It looks quite big, and I’m sure it took a very, very long time to make.

Plus you have to love the scarf around Batman’s neck. It adds a little touch of fun and humor to the entire birthday cake.

Myles is one lucky guy — he must have enjoyed this cake immensely.

4. Cool Batman Birthday Cake

Batman CakeThis cake absolutely blows me away!

Heather McKillip made this birthday cake for her daughter, and she includes instructions on her blog.

The texture of the cake is absolutely fantastic – very unique and very fun looking!

This cake reminds us — you can do it! And don’t forget: girls love Batman too! So for all you moms and dads out there looking for inspiration for your daughter’s birthday, here it is.

5. Batman & Robin Birthday Cake

Batman and Robin Birthday CakeThis cake is just insanely cool! I’m not certain, but I believe the picture of Batman and Robin running is on a piece of paper, it looks too perfect to be icing or a cake decoration. But even still that’s a great way to add real character to a birthday cake. And it’s fairly easy to find a picture online that you can print and place on a birthday cake.

This cake is one of the most fun we’ve seen, and the figurines and Batmobile add a liveliness to it that’s a ton of fun.

6. Batman and Joker Birthday Cake

Batman and Joker cakeWe really love this cake. For starters the design is very cool, and we love that Joker has such a dominant presence. This is a newer version of Batman from the recent Batman Beyond television show, and it’s rare to find a cake with this style of Batman.

We found this cake on one of the coolest Batman sites around: Bat-Blog.

The icing here is fantastic – but also something you can do!

It’s certainly not easy, but with a bit of creativity and fun you can pull off a fantastic Batman birthday cake like this one.

7. Batman Sitting Birthday Cake

Batman Sitting CakeThis is one of the stranger Batman cakes we’ve ever seen! Apparently in Brazil it’s a tradition to make birthday cakes with figures sitting on them. Truth be told, I haven’t verified that anywhere, but that’s what it says on the blog post where we found this cake.

We have no clue how the Batman figure was made, but it looks edible, so there’s a chance there’s cake there, or it’s all in something like marzipan. Regardless, that figure is quite sophisticated, it had to be hard to make!

We love the shape of this cake – it’s unique and fun.

The incredible Harry Potter birthday cakes just keep on coming! We recently featured 8 wonderful Harry Potter cakes for Harry Potter birthday parties, but now we have two more to show you. And these are absolutely incredible!

1. Harry Potter Sorting Hat Birthday Cake

Harry Potter Sorting Hat CakeFrom the picture, this Harry Potter cake looks like the real sorting hat! It’s absolutely incredible. And what’s even cooler is that Hannah Hudson-Lee, its creator, has included complete instructions on how to make the cake. It’s also important to note that Hannah isn’t a professional cake decorator (although I’m certain she could be one!)

This is by no means an easy cake to make, but with the instructions provided you can give it a try and have one of the coolest Harry Potter birthday cakes around. Just look at that cake! If it doesn’t start talking to you when you go to cut into it, I’d be surprised!

2. A Set of Twelve Harry Potter Mini-Cakes

Harry Potter mini birthday cakesWhy settle for one cake when you can have twelve? Seems like a great idea to me! Here is a set of 12 mini Harry Potter birthday cakes, each with a different theme. You can see all the individual cakes here. There’s a cake with a lightning bolt, Harry Potter’s glasses, a book and more. Each one is so perfectly designed.

Having a bunch of small cakes is a bit more work because you want to create something unique for each one, but just imagine the fun of giving each child at the birthday party an individual Harry Potter cake! Or you can simplify and think about going with cupcakes too.

It’s clear that people’s imaginations are running wild when it comes to creating these incredible Harry Potter birthday cakes. It’s inspiring and great fun to see!

Please send us your Harry Potter Birthday Cake pictures for inclusion on our site. Just visit our Contact page. And feel free to tell us how you made the cake, the story behind it and what else you did for your Harry Potter birthday party.

When it comes to Harry Potter you’d expect a bit of magic, and these wonderful birthday cakes won’t disappoint. We’ve searched far and wide across the Internet to bring you some of the best Harry Potter cakes around.

They’re listed from 1 to 8 but that’s not to say we’ve ranked them; just presenting them to you in a clean, easy way. And we’re certain you’ll enjoy these birthday cakes and garner a ton of inspiration from them!

For more Harry Potter birthday information, please visit our Ultimate Guide to a Great Harry Potter Birthday.

1. Harry Potter Mandrake Cake

Harry Potter Mandrake CakeAll we can really say about this Harry Potter birthday cake from chotda is WOW! Is that cake real? Can you eat that thing?

Apparently you can, and from the description we read it sounds pretty good too!

It’s a professionally made cake (no surprise!) and here’s the description, “…it is a terracotta pot with devil’s food cake, covered in devil’s food crumbs, and a gumpaste/pastillage mandrake root embedded on top.”

Although we’re not sure how you could replicate this cake, we’d love to see people try! It’s incredibly unique, fun and realistic. I half expect that mandrake to start screaming at me! What a great cake…

2. A Classic Harry Potter Birthday Cake

Harry Potter CakeWhen we picture a Harry Potter birthday cake, this is very much what we see. It’s got some incredible design and icing work, including shading on Harry’s face and clothes. It just looks like the “de facto” Harry Potter cake that you’d want to see at a Harry Potter party.

Another professionally made cake, and one that I think would take a fair amount of work to replicate, but you might just want to give it a try!

3. The Hogwarts Birthday Cake

Hogwarts birthday cakeFrom selkie we get this incredible Hogwarts cake. The detail work and design is just unbelievable. This is the kind of cake that you hate to cut into; it’s just that beautiful!

It’s great to see a Harry Potter cake that reflects a wider range of the characters by showing all four of the houses and not just focusing on Harry Potter. Sure, we love Harry, but there’s so much more to explore in his world, and that’s done beautifully with this cake.

I don’t think this is the type of cake that you could easily replicate, unless you were a professional cake-maker, but it’s still wonderful to look at. And you could be certain your child would go through the roof if they were to receive a Harry Potter cake like this.

4. The Hogwarts Castle Cake

Hogwarts Castle CakeWe absolutely adore this cake! It has a great 3-D perspective and the tiny characters in the front are absolutely adorable!

And unlike some of the other cakes on the list, I think us amateur cake-makers might have a chance! I’ve actually worked on cakes that look similar, although they were made out of ice cream using a sand castle mold (go check the sandbox!) I’m not sure how this cake was made, but it looks absolutely wonderful.

5. The Hogwarts School Birthday Cake

Hogwarts School Birthday CakeSimilar to #4 above this is a Hogwarts School castle birthday cake. The picture gives a great perspective. We love the fact that the creator used Lego characters! That’s gotta be a lot easier than making marzipan figurines.

This cake is fantastic with great use of decorations and candies.

The upside down ice cream cones for towers is ingenious! The graham crackers for the floor is also very smart.

This Harry Potter cake is definitely one that a do-it-yourself mom or dad (or both!) could pull off with a little planning and close attention to the photo. Just click it to see a bigger image.

6. Harry Potter Book Cake

Harry Potter Book CakeWe’re not even sure this is really a cake, it looks so realistic that we think it might just be some icing on an actual book. OK, we’re kidding! It’s definitely a cake, but can you even imagine how this was done?

It’s one of the best Harry Potter birthday cakes we’ve seen! The attention to detail around the book binding and the delicate cake decorations on the top really make this cake stand out.

7. The Quidditch Birthday Cake

Quidditch Birthday CakeWe’re in love with this cake! It’s so cute and unique.

And you can clearly see how it would be possible to make this cake. The ingredients look fairly basic and the decoration is reasonably simple. But the overall effect is wonderful! Having said that, I’m not entirely sure how the turrets are made, but they look like toilet paper rolls (which would be easy enough!)

8. The Most Incredible Harry Potter Cake Ever

Harry Potter Hogwarts cakeBar none this is the most incredible Harry Potter cake we’ve ever seen! It ranks right up there as one of the most incredible cakes we’ve ever seen, regardless of theme!

To be fair, this cake was done for a TV show (Ace of Cakes) made by the folks at Charm City Cakes. It sounds like Daniel Radcliffe and other stars from the movie even made an appearance in the show.

Obviously it would be nearly impossible to re-create this cake, but it’s still wonderful to look at!

Scouring the Web we’ve found some amazing Spiderman birthday cakes, and using a very comprehensive analysis and ranking system (OK, maybe not!) we’ve listed 10 of the top Spiderman Birthday Cakes for you to enjoy. They’re not ranked in any particular order, so make sure you check them all out. Some of these cakes were professionally made, there’s no question about it, but we’ve made sure to include enough variety for those of you that want to tackle a Spider-man cake at home.

And please visit our Ultimate Guide to a Spiderman Birthday Party as well.

1. Spider-man on Buildings Cake

Spider-man Cake on BuildingThis is a professional Spider-man cake made by Cakes by Stephen, but we think you could pull it off just the same. It’s got a great 3-D effect and some fairly sophisticated icing for bricks, but if you simplified that you could still get the same effect.

You could try this cake with two rectangular cakes, simpler icing and then purchase a Spider-man toy (or we’re sure your kid has one lying around!) and a ladder toy.

2. Spiderman Bust Birthday Cake

Spiderman Bust CakeWe’ve seen a number of Spiderman bust cakes, and this is a great example. Making a cake like this is definitely challenging – not only is it 3-D but the shape is very precise.

And since we’re not experts at making cakes (just finding them online and eating them!) we’re not sure how the head is stuck onto the body. My guess is that there’s some wiring inside the cake; and if that’s the case you want to be careful when you cut into it!

This one is from TN Something Special Cakes and it looks great. Of course, we’re not sure how you fit it into the fridge…but I guess that’s another story.

3. Artistic Spiderman Cake

Artistic Spiderman CakeWe like this cake because it has a polished, artistic look. The stylized buildings are great, and unique from other Spiderman cakes we’ve seen. This cake is from Cupcake Sisters.

We do think you could pull off something similar, possibly just using basic frosting as well as simplifying the buildings / cityscape using chocolate bars.

The presentation here is just “nice and welcoming” and we think this cake would be great for an older child or even a young adult who still loves Spider-man!

4. Madhatter Spiderman Birthday Cake

Lopsided Spidermane CakeSimply put, we’ve never seen a Spiderman cake like this before! What’s incredible is that Nati (the maker) actually didn’t want it to turn out this way. She was using a new technique, trying something new, and according to her, it didn’t turn out exactly right.

But to us it looks fantastic.

It’s unique, fun and very stylized. The use of black with pastel colors instead of primary colors adds a level of sophistication that we don’t often see in Spiderman birthday cakes. So while Nati thinks it’s not perfect, all we can say is “congrats!”

5. Towering Spiderman Cake with Cupcakes

Spiderman Cake and CupcakesWho doesn’t like a giant cake and cupcakes? Although Nanik’s wife who made the cake is a baker, we think this is the kind of cake that anyone can pull off – with a bit of work and careful preparation.

The icing is very colorful and nicely done, you could tone it done and simplify if you’d like. The key is really the cupcakes, they add tons of color and decoration. And we love the use of the Spiderman cutouts on the cake as well.

6. Cartoon Spiderman Cake

Cartoon Spiderman CakeWe know Spiderman is a cartoon, and so every cake with Spiderman is technically a “cartoon Spider-man cake” but this one has a certain style to it that makes it stand out. This was professionally done by Specialized Cakes for Every Occasion in the UK but it’s also something that we think anyone could pull off. You might not get the icing exactly right – but the basic shape should be pretty straightforward.

Really, the icing is always the challenge on these types of cakes, but this one looks fairly straightforward, so we think you can give it a try!

7. Realistic Spider-man Birthday Cake

Realistic Spiderman CakeOut of all the cakes we’ve seen, we think this one has the best picture of Spider-man. It looks like he’s jumping right off the page of a comic book! At first we thought the Spiderman was a paper cutout – but it really does look like icing.

This is the kind of cake that’s hard to cut into and eat; it just looks so good! And the tinfoil around the plate at the bottom is a great touch, it just makes the cake pop off the plate!

8. Action Figure Spiderman Birthday Cake

action-figure-spiderman-cakeThis is another professionally-made cake but we think you can pull it off!

The key is really the action figures and the toy at the very top. Kids love to see toys on cakes — and why wouldn’t they? It looks cool and they know they get to play with the toys after.

We would suggest trying to buy smaller action figures or figurines, and get one per kid attending the party. That way you can distribute them after the cake is presented and the candles are blown out.

9. Venom Birthday Cake

Venom CakeWe’ve never quite seen anything like this cake. For starters it’s a bad guy – Venom – it’s 3-D and it’s amazing! I’m not sure it’s suitable for a younger child’s birthday party but for an older kid (between 8-14) this cake would certainly stand out.

And cutting it up – you wouldn’t feel as bad – since you’d be beating the bad guy! We can see this cake working beautifully with the Spiderman Birthday party theme. Especially if you create invitations that tell guests that they’ll come to beat Venom.

Another idea is to purchase some Spiderman figurines and place them around the cake so it looks like they’re fighting the giant Venom head.

10. Spiderman and Batman Birthday Cake

Spiderman and Batman Birthday CakeWe have to put this cake on the list because of the combination of Spiderman and Batman, two of the most popular superheroes for birthday parties.

The cake comes from megpi but we don’t know how it was done. The cake itself is a basic shape, but it comes down to the incredible icing work. And I’m a big fan of the yellow icing, it’s not a color we see often with Spiderman or Batman, but it makes the two figures pop out in a big way.

11. The Kitchen Sink Spiderman Cake

Great Spider-man Cake

This is one of the stranger cakes we found, mostly because of all the crazy stuff that was put on it! In fact, I think there’s even a Spider-man toothbrush on the cake. That’s the first time we’ve ever seen a toothbrush on a cake, but it makes sense — lots of sugar and then dental hygiene. So parents will appreciate this cake even more…

We’d love to see a bigger picture of this cake along with a list of all the items that are on it because it looks incredible. This cake is from Baby Cakes R Us but there’s no reason you couldn’t do something similar.

Just think about how you can make your child’s Spiderman cake interactive!

Spiderman is one of the most popular superheroes for young children. Even those who are too young to see Spiderman movies or read the comics pick up on his image and run with it. Who wouldn’t want to be able to swing from building to building, and fight Doc Oc?

If your spidey sense is telling you that your child would love a Spider Man birthday party, you can get all the information you need here.

Spiderman Party Supplies

No party is complete without the proper supplies. And you can get the whole kit and kaboodle of Spiderman party supplies and Spiderman decorations easily – from invitations to balloons to loot bags, plates, cups and more. Here you go: Spider-Man Deluxe Party Pack.

Spider-Man Deluxe Party Pack

I think my favorite Spider-man party supply is a Spider man pinata – “Spider-Man 17″” Pull-String Pinata” . It might seem a bit awkward to have kids whacking a Spider man face, but they love it. The only challenge with these types of pinatas, in my experience, is that they don’t really break – even after repeated hits. So give each kid a few cracks at it, but then let the birthday boy or girl pull the strings for the candy/treats to come out. Chances are some of the strings will already have fallen off, so it shouldn’t take long for all the goodies to pour out of the pinata.

Spiderman Invitations

If you want to get some nicely made Spider man invitations, but don’t have the time to do them yourself, check out Lil’ Duck Duck. They offer several designs personalized Spiderman invitations and thank-you cards.

Now if you’re a bit more adventurous, why not try your hand at some do-it-yourself Spiderman birthday party invitations?

No surprise, most kids are huge fans of Ash and his trusty companion, Pikachu, but the world of Pokemon is vast, with lots of great characters for making an excellent Pokemon birthday party.

With the recent release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter parties are some of the most popular. Harry Potter is growing up, and so are your kids, so it’s not likely that you’ll have anyone under the age of 8 that’s interested in a Harry Potter party. But for kids between the ages of 8 and 12, a Harry Potter birthday party is a smash! After all, you might be a lowly Muggle, but your child is a Wizard Superstar!
